Support for You
Breast cancer can be scary and confusing, both for those diagnosed and for their family and friends. It’s important to have a strong support network to help with the physical and emotional demands of this disease. Remember, you are not alone. There are many support services available to assist you on this journey, including:

- 1-877 GO KOMEN, a free breast care helpline offering professional support services to anyone with breast health and breast cancer concerns, including breast cancer patients and their families

- The Co-Survivor section of Komen’s national website, where friends and family members can share tips and advice, and read personal stories from others who have been in similar situations

This program offers survivors access to experienced oncology providers, a wide array of support services and wellness initiatives, and a large community to connect with. It also provides countless skilled specialists who can help you through the various challenges and stages of survivorship.

Open to all cancer patients, family members, caregivers, and friends. Meetings are the second Tuesday of each month from 6:00-7:00 pm.

Ochsner-Healing Yoga for Cancer Survivors and Patients
Yoga classes can help relax your mind and center your thoughts. They can also help you maintain flexibility and may help you cope with symptoms from cancer and chemotherapy. No prior yoga experience necessary. Open to all cancer survivors, men and women. Available at both Ochsner Fitness Center and Ochsner Center for Primary Care and Wellness.
Registration is not required. No cost to the patient and no yoga experience required.

New Orleans Breast Cancer Support Groups
Various group meetings are held throughout the year at the Ochsner-Lieselotte Tansey Breast Center (across the street from the main campus).

Bosom Buddies Support Group
Bosom Buddies is an education and support group for women with a diagnosis of breast cancer. Meetings are for patients only. Meetings are the third Wednesday of each month, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.

Lymphedema Support Group
Persons with lymphedema, friends, and family are welcome. It is open to the public so anyone interested in learning about lymphedema may attend. Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of each quarter (Jan, Apr, July, Oct) from 4-5 pm at 4519 Westbank Expressway in Marrero.

Support Groups to Meet Your Needs
Can’t get to a meeting? Treatment and travel can hinder participation in meetings or you may need more support than a once a month meeting. Cancer Care, a non-profit organization, offers numerous telephone or online support groups. All groups are free of charge and are led by an oncology social worker.
